Job purpose

To operate, maintain and repair the City’s bulk water infrastructure, equipment and systems

Appointment 

requirements

An appropriate trade certificate as Plumber (red seal)

At least two years’ relevant experience in a municipal water network maintenance environment

A valid Code C1 driving licence with PrDP

Physical fitness and good health

Ability to do physical work related to operation and maintenance activities for continuous periods

Willingness and ability to work standby, shifts and overtime

Primary functions

Ensure the operation and maintenance of 175 reservoirs, 850 hydraulic operated control valves, 2 000 isolating valves and high-pressure steel water pipes with a diameter of 250 mm up to 1 200 mm with internal pressures in excess of 12 bar

Ensure continuous monitoring of reservoirs and pump stations with the need to upgrade control systems, bulk water mains and other bulk water services

Repair water leaks on pipelines

Operate hydraulic operated control valve systems, other appurtenant works and pump systems to ensure that sufficient capacity is always available

Verify telemetry by physically measuring reservoir levels

Perform general administration (time sheets and overtime)
