Job purpose

To install, configure, maintain, troubleshoot and repair radio communication and wireless network systems

Grade 12

The following relevant technical certifications or knowledge will be an added advantage: Knowledge of RF principles, antenna systems, microwave communication and wireless networking; experience with VHF, UHF, HF, digital mobile radio (DMR), TETRA, P25, LTE or similar radio technologies; occupational health and safety certification; working at heights certification; Network+

At least one to two years’ experience in radio communications, wireless systems or telecommunications in the ICT industry

A valid Code B driving licence and willingness to travel to remote sites if required

Ability to work at heights and in outdoor environments when maintaining antennas and communication towers

Must undergo a criminal record check and such a person shall allow their fingerprints to be taken by the Tshwane Metro Police Department at own cost

Primary functions

Install, configure, maintain and repair radio and wireless communication infrastructure to ensure reliable, efficient and uninterrupted communication services

Monitor the performance of radio and wireless communication systems and provide technical support to ensure optimal system availability and reliability

Configure, test and optimise radio frequency communication systems to improve coverage, performance and operational efficiency

Ensure compliance with the applicable regulatory, licensing, organisational and safety standards that govern radio and wireless communication systems

Maintain accurate technical documentation, maintenance records and asset information to support effective administration and life cycle management of communication infrastructure

Support emergency communication services and business continuity initiatives to ensure the resilience and availability of critical communication systems
