Job purpose

To assist the artisan in the operation, maintenance and repair of water collection infrastructure to ensure service delivery objectives

Basic literacy

Relevant experience in a water environment will be an added advantage

Physical fitness and health with the ability to do physical work related to operation and maintenance activities for continuous periods

Must undergo a criminal record check and such a person shall allow their fingerprints to be taken by the Tshwane Metro Police Department at own cost

Willingness and ability to work shifts, standby and overtime on request

Good communication skills; ability to work under pressure; willingness and ability to work as part of a team; ability to work in confined spaces and below ground level in trenches; ability to work under an extreme workload and to deliver work within the required time planned; ability to plan effectively and to work with minimum supervision and assistance

Primary functions

Excavate and backfill trenches by making use of shovels, pick, axes, rakes and rammers to repair sewer blockages

Unblock municipal and private sewerage blockages

Execute any operations and maintenance-related tasks as specified by the artisan

Load and offload equipment, materials and tools in the plumber truck
