Job purpose

To help control water pollution in the whole of Tshwane to establish a pollution-free environment and maintain the health and safety of the community, and to lead and guide subordinates to be effective in their positions

 

Appointment 

requirements

An appropriate three-year career-related tertiary qualification (degree or national diploma) in Analytical Chemistry, Water Care or in a study field related to the position

At least three years’ relevant working experience in a water environment

Supervisory experience will be an added advantage

A valid Code B driving licence

Computer literacy

Must undergo a criminal record check and such a person shall allow their fingerprints to be taken by the Tshwane Metro Police Department at own cost

Primary functions

Safeguard the environment within the borders of the City of Tshwane through proactive inspections, compliance monitoring and investigations to prevent and mitigate pollution

Implement and maintain a storm water ingress strategy for sewerage systems

Monitor and protect the environment against the effects of pollution in rivers, dams and underground water sources

Provide guidance and oversight on rehabilitation processes during spill incidents to ensure effective environmental restoration and compliance

Ensure the implementation of a 24-hour spill response unit

Interpret analysis results of water samples in rivers or streams and industrial effluent
