Job purpose |
To assist the deputy director to perform and prepare all calculations relating to fixed assets, to process all transactions relating to fixed assets accounting and to assist the Deputy Director: Asset Accounting to prepare the inputs to be provided to the Deputy Director: Financial Performance Reporting as and when required for monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements |

Appointment requirements |
An appropriate three-year career-related tertiary qualification (national diploma or degree) in Accounting, Financial Management or any other study field related to the position At least six years’ working experience in an asset management accounting environment Supervisory experience will be an added advantage Compliance with the unit standards of the Local Government: Municipal Finance Management Act, 2003 (Act 56 of 2003), as prescribed by Regulation 493 of 15 June 2007, as published in Government Gazette 29967 of 15 June 2007, will be an added advantage A valid Code B driving licence Computer literacy with SAP and advanced Excel knowledge Must undergo a criminal record check and such a person shall allow their fingerprints to be taken by the Tshwane Metro Police Department at own cost |

Primary functions |
Assist with processing monthly depreciation in line with the month-end schedule, such as compiling and processing financial data, balancing processed data and ad hoc journals on request or as required and calculating depreciation on assets capitalised with an earlier date Assist with performing a reasonability test on the depreciation figures on an annual basis as calculated and processed by SAP Assist with the accounting of asset disposals as and when required as well as the analysis of the disposal general ledger for cash flow purposes Assist with the monthly reconciliation between the fixed asset register and general ledger control accounts by extracting the financial assets register, drawing a trial balance and updating the register with manual transactions and restatements Overlook the reconciliation of assets held for sale Prepare inputs to be provided to the directorate responsible for the compilation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements Assist to perform accounting calculations on an annual basis (annual impairment, useful life review, review of depreciation method and general ledgers) and process the required transactions on the accounting system, which will also update the fixed asset register Assist with annual GRAP requirements Ensure that proper records are kept for all asset accounting activities Manage subordinates within the asset accounting section to always ensure maximum efficiency and use of available resources Assist with updating policies and procedures relating to asset management and accounting Assist with addressing and responding to queries from internal stakeholders with regard to accounting entries for assets Assist with addressing and responding to internal and external audit queries Assist with the implementation of the application of new GRAP standards as and when these become effective or are early adopted in daily operations Perform ad hoc tasks as and when required by the Deputy Director: Asset Accounting Report to institutions on capex, such as Statistics South Africa, the National Treasury, REDS, etc Assist with information and draw reports for budget purposes Manage the day-to-day operations of asset accounting, planning, organising, coordination, control and standards Conduct administrative tasks and training on GRAP and other accounting standards and transfer skills |
