Job purpose

To provide tractor driving services for cultivation and planting to improve agricultural production

 

Appointment 

requirements

Grade 10

At least six months’ relevant working experience as a Tractor Driver

A valid Code B driving licence (B5 endorsement restricts authorisation to a tractor but stipulates no mass limit on the tractor trailer)

A valid PrDP for transporting goods

Physical fitness and health

Must undergo a criminal record check and such a person shall allow their fingerprints to be taken by the Tshwane Metro Police Department at own cost

Ability to do the physical work related to operational and maintenance activities for continuous periods; ability to work under pressure; ability to work in a group; good communication skills

 

Primary functions

Execute tractor operations

Conduct manual pre-starting checks

Conduct manual engine starting operations

Conduct manual post-starting checks

Ensure daily care of tractor

Use tractor controls (power engagement controls and positioning and adjusting control of various implements)

Perform land cultivation using different implements

Conduct basic recordkeeping on use and hectares cultivated

Adhere to the principles and guidelines of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, 1993 (Act 85 of 1993)

Apply personal protective equipment

Conduct preventative maintenance

Attach implements

Cut grass, clear open spaces and remove rubble

Prepare sites for new developments
