Job purpose

To lead, manage and facilitate effective communication strategies that enhance the City of Tshwane’s public image, reputation and transparency, while ensuring consistent accurate messaging between the City of Tshwane and communities

 

Appointment 

requirements

An appropriate three-year career-related tertiary qualification (national diploma or degree) in Journalism, Communication Science, Public Relations or any other study field related to the position

At least nine years’ working experience in media relations, of which four years should be managerial experience

A valid Code B driving licence

Computer literacy

Must undergo a criminal record check and such a person shall allow their fingerprints to be taken by the Tshwane Metro Police Department at own cost

Primary functions

Manage media engagement and liaison relationships

Build and maintain positive constructive relationships with domestic and international media outlets, journalists and editors

Act as the primary media contact, facilitate interviews and support executives as the designated spokesperson

Conduct media monitoring and analysis

Facilitate media outreach by organising press conferences, media briefings and events to launch products or disseminate information

Ensure proactive narrative positioning and act as feature writer

Conduct reputation management

Develop strategic content

Prepare reports for management, committees and Council

Execute generic management functions

Oversee financial functions, such as preparing and controlling budgets, verifying project expenditure, monitoring financial performance and compliance with the Local Government: Municipal Finance Management Act, 2003 (Act 56 of 2003), supply chain management procedures and cost efficiency, and maintaining the section’s asset register
