Job purpose

To act as the link between the City of Tshwane and the media to enhance public image, manage reputation and communicate strategic goals

 

Appointment 

requirements

An appropriate three-year career-related tertiary qualification (national diploma or degree) in Journalism, Communication Science, Public Relations or any other study field related to the position

At least six years’ relevant working experience in a media liaison environment

Supervisory experience will be an added advantage

A valid Code B driving licence

Computer literacy

Must undergo a criminal record check and such a person shall allow their fingerprints to be taken by the Tshwane Metro Police Department at own cost

Primary functions

Be responsible for media relations by drafting content, monitoring media coverage and ensuring consistency and positive public messaging

Produce high-quality media statements and releases to secure positive coverage

Draft media alerts, statements, advisories and public notices on service delivery interruptions

Assist in developing strategies and media plans

Arrange interviews

Manage campaigns from a media perspective

Monitor media coverage and identify key issues

Oversee sectional operations and assist in supervising sectional staff
