Job purpose |
To lead the subsection responsible for protecting the City’s natural resources (open spaces), evaluate environmental impact assessment reports and ensure that there is appropriate strategic planning of projects related to the City’s sustainable development goals |

Appointment requirements |
An appropriate three-year career-related tertiary qualification (degree or national diploma) in Environmental Management, Environmental Science or any other study field related to the position A postgraduate degree in Environmental Management or Environmental Science will be an added advantage Professional registration with a recognised professional body At least eight years’ relevant experience in an environmental management field Managerial experience will be an added advantage A valid Code B driving licence Computer literacy Must undergo a criminal record check and such a person shall allow their fingerprints to be taken by the Tshwane Metro Police Department at own cost |

Primary functions |
Work on all strategic initiatives of the section Represent the section at strategic initiatives of other functions and organs of state as and when required by the director Participate in steering committees, contribute to debates, deliver inputs, obtain information from functions within the division, cross-reference and provide feedback to committees as when required. Participate in environmental impact assessment-related initiatives and provide feedback to the director in this regard Ensure daily coordination and administration of the environmental impact assessment process Assist other departments within the City with their projects that require environmental impact assessments by requesting meetings that include forums and other forms of stakeholder engagement Appoint and manage environmental impact assessment consultants Evaluate applications of strategic importance, liaise with provincial and national departments in this regard and deliver comments Oversee and participate in the delivery of comments on applications within the reporting period Initiate the development of environmental management frameworks, bioregional plans and strategic environmental assessment documents for the City Ensure that environmental impact assessment applications are evaluated in terms of available policy documents Consult with relevant municipal functions, attend meetings and conduct site inspections Manage the subsection responsible for environmental impact assessment commenting Attend to enquiries on projects and programmes of strategic importance |
