Job level: T21

Scale: R1 349 976,00–R1 874 976,00 per annum

Estimated remuneration package: R1 890 494,00–R2 558 721,00 per annum

Appointment in this position will be on a permanent basis and will be subject to signing an employment contract and performance agreement, as well as disclosing financial interests

Appointment requirements

  • Must possess an appropriate career-related degree or equivalent Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO) (NQF Level 7) qualification.
  • Must be registered as a Traffic Officer in terms of the National Road Traffic Act, 1996 (Act 93 of 1996), as amended
  • Must be appointed as a member of a municipal police service in terms of the South African Police Service Act, 1995 (Act 68 of 1995)
  • Must comply with the Municipal Regulations on Minimum Competency Levels under the Local Government: Municipal Finance Management Act, 2003 (Act 56 of 2003), as published in Government Notice R493 in Government Gazette 29967 of 15 June 2007
  • Must have ten years’ relevant experience, of which five years must be at brigadier level
  • Must possess at least a valid Code B driving licence
  • Must have no criminal record or pending criminal cases awaiting trial and must allow their fingerprints to be taken. The applicant’s name must also not appear on the register for sexual and child offenders.
  • Must be willing to undergo a vetting process as determined by the department
  • Must be medically fit in accordance with occupational health procedures
  • Must pass a physical evaluation
  • Must be willing to be subjected to and pass a psychometric and competency assessment
  • Must pass a firearm proficiency test
  • Must be proficient in English and pass an assessment
  • Must be prepared to take the Oath of Office of the Tshwane Metro Police Department

Primary functions: To exercise control over the specialised policing service function with the aim of maintaining an impartial, accountable, transparent and efficient specialised policing service within the City of Tshwane, subject to legislated context responsibilities, national standards and the directives of the Chief of Police. The incumbent will be responsible and accountable for the following key performance areas:

  • Tactical policing operations
  • Road policing
  • By-law policing
  • Crime prevention
  • Protection services
