Job purpose |
To repair and maintain all components of bulk water networks, such as control valves, large diameter pipelines, isolating valves, air valves and bulk water meters, and assist service providers in upgrading bulk water infrastructure |

Appointment requirements |
Trade certificate as plumber (red seal) At least two years’ relevant experience in a municipal water network maintenance environment Supervisory experience will be an added advantage A valid Code C1 driving licence with PrDP Computer literacy Physical fitness and good health Ability to do physical work related to operation and maintenance activities for continuous periods Willingness and ability to work standby, shifts and overtime Must undergo a criminal record check and such a person shall allow their fingerprints to be taken by the Tshwane Metro Police Department at own cost |

Primary functions |
Operate and maintain 175 reservoirs, 985 control valves, 2 000 isolating valves and steel water pipes with diameters of 250 mm up to 1 200 mm with internal pressures in excess of 25 bar Conduct continuous monitoring of these reservoirs and pump stations with the need to upgrade control systems, bulk water mains and other bulk water services Repair water leaks on pipelines Conduct general and administrative duties (time sheets, overtime, materials, plant, transport and labour) Operate control valve systems and other apparatus works to ensure that sufficient capacity is always available Comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, 1993 (Act 85 of 1993) Perform generic supervisory duties |
