Job purpose

To be responsible for the planning and design of the water distribution system, including bulk water pipelines, water distribution networks, reservoirs, water pump systems and pressure and flow control valve systems

Appointment 

requirements

An appropriate three-year career-related tertiary qualification (national diploma or degree) in BEng, BSc Engineering or BTech Civil Engineering, with specialisation in Water and Urban Management or in a study field related to the position

Professional registration with the Engineering Council of South Africa will be an added advantage

At least eight years’ relevant working experience in water and sanitation infrastructure environment

Managerial experience will be an added advantage

Compliance with the unit standards of the Local Government: Municipal Finance Management Act, 2003 (Act 56 of 2003), as prescribed by Regulation 493 of 15 June 2007, as published in Government Gazette 29967 of 15 June 2007, will be an added advantage

A valid Code B driving licence

Computer literacy (advanced Excel) and knowledge of SAP

Must undergo a criminal record check and such a person shall allow their fingerprints to be taken by the Tshwane Metro Police Department at own cost

Primary functions

Design new water infrastructure

Analyse and optimise the water distribution system

Identify master plan items and projects for execution by the infrastructure provision section

Liaise and communicate with various stakeholders with regard to municipal water provision

Approve designs and plans to ensure compliance with City standards and specifications

Initiate capital projects for implementation

Conduct technical investigations where there are water provision issues

Perform generic management functions

Perform generic financial functions
