Job purpose

To execute field water audits, trace illegal connections and enforce the City’s by-laws to reduce unaccounted water

 

Appointment 

requirements

Trade certificate as plumber (red seal)

At least two years’ relevant experience in plumbing, preferably in a local government environment with knowledge of various water meters

Supervisory experience will be an added advantage

A valid Code B driving licence

Computer literacy

Physical fitness and good health with the ability to make actual site visits

Willingness and ability to work shifts, standby and overtime

Must undergo a criminal record check and such a person shall allow their fingerprints to be taken by the Tshwane Metro Police Department at own cost

Primary functions

Conduct site water audits and meter inspections

Conduct water audit inspections

Repair or replace obsolete or stolen water meters

Verify and collect water meter-related data

Investigate unauthorised water connections

Detect internal infrastructure water leaks (internal pipelines, fittings, etc)

Conduct municipal water network data validation

Issue spot fines for illegal connections or unauthorised water consumption

Investigate new building sites for compliance

Communicate and liaise with the public to inform consumers of their responsibilities

Educate consumers about their responsibilities and the role they play in ensuring effective service delivery in terms of water supply

Deal with and assist customers to resolve their problems and queries

Conduct quality control through performance reporting and so forth

Register and report any tampering or bypassing of water meters

Determine ownership of a water meter

Plan and schedule work daily
